For something different, I’m taking on a quick furniture repair project.
This is a Danish mid-century chair from Vintage MC Frederick that was broken by leaning back on it. One horizontal member broke, and the other came unglued, leaving the chair in two pieces. There was also a small chunk missing from one of the arms, where a dowel was ripped out.
I started by cutting the broken pieces close to the tenons with a pull saw. Next, using a chisel and pick, I cleaned the broken fragment out of the mortise. I cleaned out the dowel holes with a 3/8″ forstner drill bit.
So far, I have one of two mortises and one of two dowel holes cleaned out – two more to go! To replace the broken section, I’ll be using red oak.
